Dana1; I am especially fond of Frank Lloyd Wright's "Fallingwater" and have a color rendering of it on my office wall. I think I like it so much because its "boxy"

FLWs work has beautiful woodwork. Architects are artists, some with better talent than others, but they should not be confused with building scientists as they do often get caught up in their own ego driven designs. That said, Craftsman style woodwork is warm and inviting and many of the American Bungalow designs are the nicest houses I have been in. They just don't lend themselves to passive solar as well as other styles.

Can the steel SIP roof be field painted? For instance, if there is a 24" overhang and let's say one would want to paint the 24" underside the same color like that of the stucco wall, could it be done? Would it have to be sprayed on or rolled on? Any special surface prep?

Of course the rest of the roof would be covered with a standing seam metal roof an the fascia area would get covered with this paneling.



The other question I had is that I was told metal roofs NO LONGER require an extra slop sheet. I was told:

Due to the primer now installed on the back side of panels and the reduced use of asphalt in the traditional 15 and 30 lb felts, slip sheets are no longer needed.  The underlayments today act as slip sheets used to in the past.  That being said, many contractors will use 1 layer of 30 lb felt or 2 layers of 15 lb felt to be most cost effective.  Other underlayments that carry higher water proofing like “peel and sticks” are mainly used in low slope (3/12 and lower) applications or where ever this potential for high snow loads.  These products can be used anywhere and at any time but are pretty pricey.  They are the most water tight roof however.  Other underlayments, such as Versashield, provide a Class A fire rating to the roofing system due to its fiberglass mat and fire retarding characteristics.  A lot of options to consider.

Yes any paint suitable for metal will work, Home Depot has a glidden paint for metal siding that I have used and no prep needed.
can be sprayed , rolled or brushed.No surface prep needed.
You need 1 slip sheet (not an extra one)does not matter what it is, but 30# felt- minimum is good, anything to seperate metal roof to metal deck.
Peel N Sticks can be used on all splopes and in our area are required on ALL roofs as a secondary water barrier (hurricane protection) thanks to insurance company lobbyists
