Residential ICF Structural Engineers with Virginia stamp? And SW Virginia ICF builders?

Searching through this forum for some possible leads on SEs for residential ICF projects, I came across this statement from Lbear: "Sadly, most engineers that don't deal with concrete or ICF builds, are really shooting in the dark when they engineer those builds. 95% of residential engineers deal with wood frame. When you inject ICF, they go to the extremes, either not enough rebar or they rebar that thing like it is a 30 story hotel."

I've designed a handful of ICF homes over the years and it has been my nature to use an engineer even if the prescriptive code and local jurisdiction don't require one, in part because I don't trust myself enough to confidently say that I am fully following the provisions of the code (have you read through the latest IRC R611?). And if I can't trust myself to fully understand what I'm looking at I'm certainly not going to allow my designs to be put out to bid to builders who may have even less of a grasp on the prescriptive requirements.

With that as preamble, I'm having a problem finding an available engineer who knows residential ICF (emphasis on "available"—the engineers I know are overloaded and my clients would like to move quickly to construction). To that end, can anyone on this forum refer me to an available SE with a Virginia stamp who is experienced with residential ICF?

Also, ICF has not made many inroads in our particular neck of the woods of SW Virginia (Roanoke and further SW) so finding experienced, well-referenced ICF builders is difficult, to say the least. If anyone can pass on some names to me I'd appreciate it. I currently have two projects under consideration, both out in the boonies. The one above is a relatively large home but due to location we're looking at probably having an ICF expert come in under a labor-only arrangement with a local GC. This will be competitively bid and the one and only good local ICF builder I know of will likely be one of the bidders. The other project is a small rectangular home (ICF basement housing main living area under a roof with living space from dormers/attic trusses). This will probably be a DIY job so a consultant-type builder to come in to help put up the ICF through the pour would be best.

Thanks!

PS To give you an idea about how hard it is to get ICF built here, one of the major ICF MFR's local rep as much as told me to not even bother trying; the only folks around here who build ICF are the DIYers, so it wasn't even worth his time to try and connect me with any builders.

I do not know the current policy on listing an e-mail address in a posting but in the past, e-mail addresses were removed by the administrator. I got around the problem by writing my address in a different format, such as alton at Auburn dot edu. This address should not be recognizable by robots that search sites for e-mail addresses. I think most people will know to use the correct format when they use an e-mail address.

Thanks, Bill. I just shot you an email. I'll call you on Monday.

Thanks, Alton. Did I get my email to Bill before the editors got to him? :-)

I'll take a private message through this website or a call to me at 866 FOR SKIA. I'm Marc, by the way.

Anyone else know someone or are someone I'm looking for?

If ICFs is a no go, then you might want to look at SCIPs. Top Gun gunite and shotcrete is located in VA. Coastal is in Maryland. Gulf Concrete Technology of Long Beach, Mississippi has panels to ship.
