I am sold on Triangle Tube Mod Cons.
1- they seem to have a simple self cleaning heat exchanger. 2- it is made of one type of metal SS.
That said... we had trouble with starts on last one. Solution was to oversize the propane supply line to 1" for a 60,000btu unit. We had all the experts out from gas supplier and Triangle manufacturer for three visits before coming up with oversize solution. And it was mentioned to have been a problem in it's past history. Interesting that they don't publish a lick of it on their sites or in the troubleshooting. Seems they should even just change the manual and ask for larger piping. Anyway.. I still like them lots.
I would like to hear from others. I will as time goes by... let all know how our systems hold up.

One last major item... cost of TT.. is up there..
I am hoping someday to find costs closer to $1,000 for a small unit, $2,000 for large.
and one more and... eventually I am moving to very low heat needs... may be able to heat home with just heated tile in baths..emitting 1-10,000btus heating entire well insulated passive home. Am guessing that heat would be from solar panels/fuelcells combo.
Mod Cons... let talk Mod Cons long term success.

ModCons on propane are a challenge. This is where experience with a combustion analyzer come in handy. TT is a good boiler but the "self-cleaning" thing is marketing. |

We have found the same with LAARs Mascot mod con on propane, they some times can be hard to settle and will pop on ignition if not balanced right from the get go. this seems also more prevalent roof vent propane units as well. The Natural gas units do not share this problem. Dan |

We have been using Buderus GB 125s (I think). Propane fired modcons for about 2 years without any issues. Customers love them, especially the performance, size and lack of noise. They have all been installed on exterior basement walsl on the daylight side w/ less than 4' of schedule 40 PVC to exhaust or fresh air. Not sure if that makes any difference but have never experienced any popping, or any other flame problems. My 2cents as a GC, we don't install or sell HVAC. We contract out and deal with the client's. Haven't had a single complaint since we switched to Buderus for heat and Unico for A/C. The alternative here is oil. Clients hate oil with a passion. Our sub loves working with Buderus, but he definitely charges a premium for these installations. |
